National Art League gallery

The National Art League is a non-profit organization of professional artists, serious students and those interested in participating in and supporting the advancement of the creative arts of drawing, painting and sculpture.

The League was founded as the Douglaston Art League in 1930 by Alice Chase Sullivan and Helen Chase, daughters of the famous American painter William Merritt Chase. Today, the original membership of 13 students has grown to 300 artist members.

The League provides a friendly atmosphere where artists can find fellowship and the fulfillment that creating art provides. It is a place where artists and the community can meet and exchange ideas.

The NAL is housed in a two story brick building in Douglaston, NY, purchased in 1955. A modern exhibition gallery and classroom occupy the main street level. Artist studios, additional classroom and the NAL office occupy the second floor. The lower level is used for storage.
