Domingo Carrasco

“The picture plane is where I go to engage in a dialogue with color as well as with line. I enjoy color for itself and defend it whenever I can in my work. I keep things fresh by exploring conventional subject matter in new ways. Simplifying,

exaggerating and abstracting, allow me to tell the story of my pictures from beginning to end. Since making pictures is a way of communicating, I prefer for my work to speak honestly. Leaving room for mystery is never part of the plan, however, in the end it seems inherent”.

Domingo is a Queens New York native. At an early age visual art was an integral part of his world. Growing up in a supportive environment enabled him to create without inhibitions. He attended public school as a child and then the High School of Art and Design; later Queens College of the City University of New York.

At Queens College his interests shifted to education were he obtained an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. Domingo’s desire to pursue art once again came into play when he returned to the City University of New York at Lehman College. At Lehman College he obtained a Masters of Science in Art Education. In 2001 he accepted an art teaching position at a public school in New York City where he continues to work with children in the capacity of learning and creative expression.
