Karen Neiman

My academic background includes a B.A., in Fine Art, from The City College of New York and a Master’s Degree from Hunter College. I also studied textile design at the School of Visual Arts in New York. This advanced knowledge has provided the tools  to embrace my lifelong fascination with art.  Patterns, abstract shapes, and intricate arrangements of vibrant colors are freely used in my work.

Various components of nature, such as trees and shells, remind us of our connectivity to all living things. To effectively express this appreciation of nature, I use acrylic painting, calligraphy, design and collage.  Layers of medium are used to create complex explorations of shapes. The viewer is invited to experience deeply felt emotions which are arranged as forests, landscapes and plant imagery.

I have also experimented with cut fabric, handmade papers, postage stamps and photographs. My lines and shapes subtly allude to the art of Chinese calligraphy. By creating textures, my collages illustrate a sensitive and colorful world. My palette of  blues, greens, golds and reds help to conjure a wide range of moods

and insights into the natural world. Various mediums such as acrylic paint, colored pencils, and markers allow me to transform landscape, seascape, and cityscape into my own personal statement.

I enjoy creating art in my home studio. I currently specialize in collages combining various media which I take from printed matter.  Newspapers, magazines, maps and other discarded materials are fused into strong, vibrant images. My work has been exhibited in numerous group shows, and a solo show, at

Gallery 35 in New York City.  In addition, I have exhibited on Long Island at the Gold Coast Art Center, Mills Pond House, the National Art League The Barnes Gallery and various galleries, juried shows and art festivals.  I am currently affiliated with the National Art League where I am the recipient of many awards.
