Ralph Acosta

A native New Yorker, I moved to Stonington, CT in 2005. My artistic ability began in my early teens with drawings and self-taught in oil painting. I was eventually introduced to teachings of Edgar Whitney, the renowned watercolorist at the National Art League. He opened my mind to the freedom, transparency and spontaneity of watercolors. I studied with Whitney for several years and eventually became a watercolor instructor at the NAL for 18 years. I presently conduct classes and workshops at my studio in Stonington.

I have performed many demos for numerous art leagues throughout Westchester and Long Island, NY. I have also conducted many plein air workshops including a week in Puerto Rico as well as a Northeast coast painting cruise.

I am a member of Lyme Art Association, Mystic Art Center, Hudson Valley art Association, National Art League, CT Watercolor Society, CT Academy of Fine Arts, a Core Artist of the Maritime Gallery at Mystic Seaport and former member of the Salmagundi Club in NYC.

I am the recipient of numerous noted awards: 1st Place at the Salmagundi National Member Show, Newport Art Museum, CT Watercolor Society (2011), Mystic Outdoor Art Festival (2008). My work has been exhibited at the: American Watercolor Society; CT Watercolor Society; American Artists Professional League; American Indian Museum, LI; Hecksher Museum, LI; Newport Art Museum, LI; Lyme Art Association, CT,  and the Rhode Island Watercolor Society to name a few.
