Susan Herz

Susan Herz graduated from Queens College with a degree in Elementary and Early Childhood education. She has been taking watercolor classes here at the NAL for more than thirty years.

Throughout the years, Susan has participated in numerous art shows in Queens and Long Island and has won many ribbons including first prize for her watercolors.

Since her retirement from the New York City school system where she taught art for the last seven years of her teaching career, she’s been studying drawing, acrylics and more recently pastel painting at the Si Beagle School for NYC retired teachers. She also taught a mixed media class there for two years. It is teaching art to children, though, that gives Susan as much pleasure as producing her own paintings. She has been teaching a multi and mixed media children’s class at the NAL since 2009.

The students in her class experiment with and combine various media to make their own unique art work, as well as learn watercolor techniques and elements of design and composition. Later in the year, acrylics are introduced. Creativity and developing a personal style are emphasized.
